93 points – 2013 Founder’s Collection Syrah

bottle of occasio syrah wine in a persons hand

André Tchelistcheff, considered the father of post-prohibition winemaking, once remarked that Livermore Valley would one day “produce the most outstanding Rhone wines in the style of Hermitage….” Wine Editor Jim Gordon, of the Wine Enthusiast, would appear to agree. In awarding our 2013 Founder’s Syrah, Ghielmetti Vineyard, 93 points in the August edition of the magazine Jim writes,

“With aromas like boysenberry and blackberry jam and flavors that fill the mouth and linger on the finish, this wine is pure, dark and delicious. Not that it’s soft and sweet, but instead is dry, very firm in texture while very friendly and concentrated in flavor. Best to drink from 2018 to 2023.”

Released last Valentine’s day, only a dozen cases remain. We have put these few remaining cases safely away for now – for re-release in a few years after some additional bottle aging.
