Occasio Winery and the Legacy of Gypsy Jazz (SOLD OUT)

blog-oct5

So, what happens when Louis Armstrong collides with a youthful, French Romany guitarist in the 1930s?  Gypsy Jazz (Hot Jazz) is born, and the name Django Reinhardt was forever to become synonymous with the Gypsy Jazz genre.  The genius of the late Django continues to provide inspiration to a new generation of musicians, who have been creating “hot-clubs” in the world’s major cities in his honor.  The music is unlike anything you’ve heard before – a Romany influence on the swing jazz of the 1930s and 40s – complex, wonderful music to dine and dance to, and a perfect complement to our equally intriguing wines!

Our very first Member’s event was held at the winery in November 2009, and live Gypsy Jazz helped make it a memorable event.   Winemaking equipment and barrels now fill our winery space, so, for this our 5th anniversary, we move to a larger venue: this year, the historic Cresta Blanca Room.   And, to commemorate our fifth, we are bringing back Gypsy Jazz for the evening, with one of the best-known of the Hot-Club groups, Le Jazz Hot.   Le Jazz Hot is the traveling quartet of the famous Hot Club of San Francisco, and is returning from tour that day, to help us celebrate!   This is certainly to be another memorable event of great food, wonderful wines, exciting music, and a little dancing!
