Grenadine Syrup
Grenadine syrup is seeing a resurgence in popularity among the craft cocktail crowd – but only if it is homemade. True Grenadine is a pomegranate syrup, but most commercial versions don’t contain any pomegranate at all. The ingredients for one popular brand read, ‘high fructose corn syrup, water, citric acid, sodium citrate, sodium benzoate, red 40, natural and artificial flavors, blue 1.’ Hardly counts as Grenadine, does it?
Why not make your own with natural ingredients – it is quite simple, and the results are stunning. Feel free to vary the recipe – try adding Demerara sugar for more caramel notes.
