Low-ABV Wine Cocktails for Super Bowl Weekend
“Wine has always been part of the table. We’re just giving it new ways to join the conversation.”
Super Bowl weekend is a marathon, not a sprint—and the best drinks are the ones that keep pace. With Super Bowl LX landing right here in the Bay Area at Levi’s Stadium, we’re leaning into something we believe deeply at Occasio: wine doesn’t have to be formal, precious, or confined to a single glass. It can be playful. Flexible. Shared.
For centuries, wine has been used not just for sipping, but for spritzes, punches, cobblers, and everyday refreshers—especially in cultures where drinking was woven into long meals and longer conversations. These low-ABV wine cocktails honor that tradition while updating it for modern gatherings: lighter, brighter, and built for all-day enjoyment.
Whether you’re hosting a watch party, tailgating, or settling in with friends, these three easy cocktails use Occasio wines as their foundation (with a small cameo from our neighbors at Sidewinder Spirits for variety). They’re simple to mix, easy to scale for pitchers, and designed to let flavor shine—without next-day regrets.
Summer Sling – Rosé Wine Cocktail
This evolved take on our classic Summer Sling is ultra-refreshing and perfectly suited to a long afternoon. Bright acidity and fresh berry notes from our Rosé – elevé lead the way, while lemonade and fizz keep things lively and balanced.
Ingredients (per serving)
- 3 oz Occasio Rosé (Founder’s Rosé, Rosé Élévage, or current vintage)
- 2 oz high-quality lemonade (fresh-squeezed or low-sugar preferred)
- ½ oz fresh lemon or lime juice
- 2–3 oz club soda or sparkling water
- Ice
- Garnish: fresh mint sprig + lemon wheel or thin strawberry slice
Fill a large wine glass or highball with ice. Add rosé, lemonade, and fresh citrus juice. Stir gently. Top with club soda for lift and garnish with mint (give it a light slap to release aroma) and citrus or fruit.
Crisp, balanced, and quietly sessionable—this cocktail lands around 6–8% ABV, making it ideal for long game-day sipping.
Pitcher option:
Scale up with 18 oz rosé, 12 oz lemonade, and 3 oz citrus juice. Add ice and club soda just before serving.
Sparkling Malvasia Hugo Refresher (Low-Alcohol Spritz)
Inspired by the classic Hugo spritz, this version lets our méthode champenoise Sparkling Malvasia shine. Stone fruit, floral notes, and subtle spice pair beautifully with elderflower and fresh mint.
Ingredients (per serving)
- 4 oz Occasio Sparkling Malvasia
- ½–1 oz elderflower syrup (to taste)
- Fresh mint leaves
- Lime slice or wheel
- Splash of soda water (optional)
- Ice
Fill a wine glass with ice. Add elderflower syrup and top with Sparkling Malvasia. Gently muddle a few mint leaves to release aroma. Add a splash of soda if desired. Garnish with mint and lime.
Floral, bright, and refreshing at ~7–8% ABV, this spritz is perfect from kickoff through the final whistle.
Lemon Gin Fizz – Light Botanical Cocktail
For those who want a touch more botanical backbone, this bright fizz uses a modest pour of Sidewinder Spirits Botanical Gin balanced with plenty of sparkle. Herbal notes complement game-day snacks without overwhelming the palate.
Ingredients (per serving)
- 1½ oz Sidewinder Botanical Gin (or Dry Gin)
- 3 oz club soda or sparkling water
- 1 oz fresh lemon juice
- ½ oz simple syrup (or elderflower syrup)
- Ice
- Garnish: lemon twist + rosemary or thyme sprig
Fill a highball with ice. Add gin, lemon juice, and syrup. Stir briefly to chill and top with soda water. Garnish with citrus and herbs (slap gently to release aroma).
Light, zesty, and balanced at ~8–9% ABV, this cocktail pairs especially well with wings, sliders, and grilled favorites.
Wine Beyond the Glass
At Occasio, we love wine on its own—but we also love what happens when it’s shared, mixed, stretched, and re-imagined. These low-ABV wine cocktails aren’t about abandoning tradition; they’re about continuing it in ways that fit how we gather today.
Lower alcohol means longer conversations. Wine as an ingredient means more creativity. And the best part? There’s no wrong way to enjoy a good bottle—especially when it brings people together.
